A longtime close friend of Ja Morant was arrested on Wednesday for misdemeanor assault on a teenager at the home of the Memphis Grizzlies star in an incident that has drawn Morant into an ongoing civil lawsuit.

Davonte Pack is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday morning for his role in the July 26, 2022, altercation in which Morant is alleged to have hit Joshua Holloway, then 17, during a pickup game at the NBA player’s home in suburban Memphis.

ESPN obtained the arrest warrant for Pack, issued last week by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, that stated that Morant’s friend admitted to striking Holloway during the altercation in a May 2023 deposition that was part of the civil suit.

“Investigators were provided with medical records dated July 27, 2022 that show Holloway sustained bodily injury to include a hematoma to the scalp, sore jaw and headaches in the area of where Pack struck him,” the warrant also indicated.

In a statement to ESPN, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said that Pack was charged with “Simple Assault in relation to the July 2022 altercation involving Mr. Pack, Memphis Grizzlies basketball player Ja Morant, and a juvenile basketball player at Mr. Morant’s residence in Eads.”

Authorities had not been aware of Pack’s identity since Holloway only referred to Pack by a nickname and a statement to authorities by Morant didn’t disclose Pack’s name.

He was later identified, according to court documents reported on by ESPN, when authorities were given information pointing to his identity and then received his deposition testimony where he admitted to hitting Halloway.

No criminal charges have been filed against Morant in relation to the incident.

Pack’s name has come up in several off-the-court incidents involving Morant.

Pack had been banned from Grizzlies home games after he had to be removed from his courtside seat during a game against the Indiana Pacers after he got into a “verbal sparring” with some of the players.

Pack was also the one who live-streamed on Instagram video of Morant flashing a gun in May, which got the NBA player suspended for 25 games.
